CASE STUDY / People and roles
She Was Ready to Replace Her Whole Team. Everyone Stayed.
Every person stayed.
The owner knew something was wrong. The business was doing fine, chugging along, but results were nowhere near where she wanted them. She didn't have a people plan, and she didn't know how to look for the problem. She only knew how it felt.
By the time she called us, she was ready to let every person on her staff go. All of them.
What was actually happening
We started where we always start. What does each role really demand, day to day? Then we looked at how each person on her team is naturally wired.
The problem wasn't the people. Good people were sitting in roles that fought against their natural drives, and they were adapting all day long to survive in them. People who adapt that much get tired. Tired people miss things. From the outside, it looked like a team that didn't care.
One interview.
Every role.
The same questions and the same onboarding experience, regardless of the work.
Different work.
Different models.
A behavioral model for each role, with interviews and training designed around it.
What we changed
We didn't replace anyone. We moved people into the roles they were wired for, and we coached the owner to lead each person the way that person needs to be led.
What happened
Every single person stayed.
She didn't have a people problem. She had a placement problem, and nobody had ever shown her the difference.
Blame is easy. Leadership is not.
